This pen is an English Waterman's -- black celluloid (I think) flattop, no model number on cap or barrel, chrome clip with Waterman's engraved in clip, single gold cap ring.  Imprint on barrel  Waterman's Fountain Pen top and bottom, Made in England in the center.  4 13/16" (12.2 cm) long capped, 4 17/32" (11.5 cm) long uncapped.  Nib (not yet restored...) engraved:  Waterman's Ideal England 2B.  I've seen several pictures of #3's, none the same but all sorta like this one, so it's the closest I can get.  Help please?  If it's a 3, is it indeed celluloid or is it one of the last BHR Watermans?

Looks like HR to me.   Rub it and give it a sniff.

I have had several of those over the years and I have always considered them to be a derivative of the #3. It may have been referred to as the "Thoroughbred" if i remember rightly. Judging by the fading to the barrel and cap compared to the area under the cap I'd say BHR. To prove or disprove - rub with your thumb and smell the pen to see if it issues a rubbery whiff......celluloid smells of camphor by and large.

thanks!  I found a number of pictures of Thorobreds, one of which was a match.  It's an interesting pen, sort of what they call a Plain Jane in the car world.
