C'mon, it's in "very good condition". For a pen with a goiter, I suppose.

Outch!! You could have chosen another disease with swelling a bit  easier for the patient :) . From the Internet pictures that looks it hurts bad!

Isn't that the rare Zaner-Bloser Vac?  Probably worth a fortune!

Being that this one is going away in a few hours, can any of you shed light on what caused this to occur? My thoughts would be that it could only be barrel shrinkage of some extreme nature, but could someone have tried to replace the filler using an adhesive that cause the immediate area to swell? I just can't figure what would cause such radical deformation.

Don't think it's shrinkage, so much as swelling from a drastically overtightened filler unit, likely also installed without cleaning away the hardened remains of the old diaphragm's skirt.

Wow. I couldn't imagine the material swelling and stretching that much without failing (breaking, cracking, etc).

Maybe a solvent was used to clean that part of the pen and that combine with overnighting has made the swelling. Overheat would also allow the celluloid to stretch without breaking....

Note: Such a rare pen did not attract any bids ;)
