Spirited bidding, but lots of $10 nibbles in the middle.

Amazing. Things do happen. Perhaps I'll part with my one spare...

Possibly. I have one that's been in my personal collection 12 years or so. I picked up another at DC a year or two back. Both really nice. I have not done a side-by-side. I'd probably keep whichever is slightly better going forward.
Both have crisp color without end crazing.

Couple years or so.

Something seems off about the bidding on that one. The same two bidders made this Doric go for $731, too. One of the bidders only has a 10 feedback, and 81% of his bids were with the seller of these items.
The last one of these I recall seeing on eBay went for sub $200.

Good catch.
Yes, 81% of all the high bidder's eBay bids were with this same seller -- and 89% of the underbidder's!
How much more suspicious a pattern does it take before eBay's warning systems kick in?

My opinion; Ebay is now only good for new items, and its business model is in its "Sunset" phase. The cleaving of Paypal from eBay is a clear sign that things are not going well for eBay. Also, their close ties was a violation of the Sherman Anti-Trust Act; they saw the writing on the wall so to speak in my opinion, and before the Feds got involved, they split themselves.

Since I have probably obtained a majority of my pens - mostly old ones - from eBay, I really can't agree with Greg. But you must know what an item is worth, and not go overboard. If I saw that bidding pattern, I would steer clear from that seller. Even so, I bought a nice Nozac for $240 from this guy earlier this year. I admittedly do, for the most part, stick with sellers I have dealt with before.
Schrödinger's cat walks into a bar. And doesn't.

Now *that's* interesting. On other forums collectors lamenting what seems to be fewer auctions & more "BIN / OBO" listings. (Not to mention horrible photos & lack of really cool items.)
E-Bay for e-stores then? The days of average joe listing something going if not gone?
My one auction for a pen fetched about as much as expected. What I failed to do was read the fine print. Final listing fee = 10% + Pay-Pal at 5% or something?
15% of gross = unremunerative. : (

that is only what they take from the seller: with the awfully expensive "Global Shipping Program", Ebay now also makes easy money at the expense of the buyer.

My opinion differs from Greg's re SATA of 1890. I believe that the last Class Action SATA suit was dismissed around 2010, 2011 and no further action was pending. I also think that eBay and PayPal were very close to being in violation of SATA (I am not a lawyer) married to one but she practices crim. law. I also think that Icahn was a principal proponent of the spin off and although not a direct cause certainly influenced its conclusion. "Sunset phase"? I think not. Where else are you going to find such a vast choice of nearly anything you want to buy concentrated in a single electronic venue? Until someone else comes up with a better model eBay is going to be the best choice to buy and sell.
