This pin issue is also troubling for me now that it seems to be more than an inflammatory, juvenile joke. Its continued pursuit is not particularly gracious nor does it cast you, David, in a particularly good light. It also makes the PCA appear more adult and amenable by not commenting.

The pen community is not huge and the hatchet needs to be buried by both parties once and for all for the common good of this board and the PCA. Making enemies does not bode well in the long term, particularly among those who contribute to this board.

Honestly, I've never spent much time worrying about being in a good light. I'm more interested to see issues play out.  Hugh is right that the best jokes are the ones that reveal touchiness.  The pin thing was not serious, but- really- when people try to be intimidating in response, I tend to find myself charmed by the notion of pursuing. And, I do have a history of doing things that charm me.  It would be more to see the joke through to its somewhat ironic end.  We'll see. I'm not yet committed. You'd know if I were. There have been plenty comments all around, and I'm happy to take any shots people wish to offer.  The threads aren't shut down (do check out commentary at a Much Bigger Board to see how long comments on touchy issue such as this last). People's comments are not deleted. You all are invited to vent pretty much as you will.  What I've not had chance to do, what with a crazy week at work (now ending, leading to a weekend vacation in mountains, then finally home to play here properly) is collate the data and issues on this subject as I see them and present a tidy package. It is overdue..   The PCA had its say via Jon. I'll touch on issues I've seen.  The issues will play out.  I don't seek to offend, but I don't let fear of offending have influence. People will have the chance to offer all their own views on what is presented.

Fair enough. I look forward to seeing the entire picture.

Nobody was paying attention to this lot on eBay I guess.  Perfect mix of the seller's bad listing practices and my willingness to hunt led me to this purchase.  It's got some issues, but it's well worth the price of entry.  I'll post up better pictures when it arrives in my mailbox.

Nice find, Brian.  Congratulations!

Jon Veley:As far as I'm concerned, it's difficult to understand why someone in our hobby - in which we think nothing of paying hundreds for the objects of our affection - would be too cheap to pay $40 a year to support a non-profit, national organization dedicated to improving the hobby.  Mr. Armstrong, if you haven't paid your dues, I'll be looking for a check from you next week.  It is the least you can do.

Please join the Mabie Todd Swan project where I am trying to sort out the undocumented mess that is American Mabie Todd's from the 1930's. The last pens that MT seemed to advertise were the "Eternal" pens, and then the company put out a wide range of different styles, shapes, sizes and filling systems before eventually closing up shop. I invite you to post your pictures of your American pens

If I could give Marc's post a thumbs up I would... Dave, the reason I'm a member of this board is because I think it is the only real board that deals in serious topics regarding vintage pens. I'm not a member of the PCA though I can appreciate the time and effort invested in attempting to educate those that become interested in fountain pens and much of their focus seems to be vintage oriented. I'm good friends with several of the people on both sides of this debate but you have to understand that even a joke about a pin goes above and beyond your distaste for the PCA.

I'm not going to through mud back and forth, Marc's picture conveys my opinion.

Pearce, I have been too busy of late to collate the info into presentable form. This week no doubt, as I am off now.  Plenty of seriousness to go around, I expect.

My joke about the pin was rather independent of issues of distaste.

And, I'm not sure it is a joke now.

I respect your right to disagree.

Actually, you don't respect anything much at all, do you?

Tactic 5 from the Losing Debater's Manual: "When you have nothing of substance to offer in discussion, profess to know your opponent's psyche, thoughts, state of mind... and find them to be... bad".   Always nice to see an exemplar, such as Jon.
