This is not my auction. I'm just making everyone aware.

Right now there is a rare Parker 51 desk set available on ebay. It's a Motorola "Executive" radio desk set with Parker 51 Pen and Pencil. This set was only made in 1953 and 1954 in a collaboration between Motorola and Parker, given that they were both Midwest companies at the time (Chicago and Janesville, Wi). Noteworthy to the set is that the pencil uses a rare appropriately sized holder. This is noteworthy because there were very few Parker 51 desk sets that included a pencil. This last bit of information I got from Ernesto Soler.

These things are like hen's teeth, IMHO. This is only the fourth I've seen. I own one presently and had another that I sold to Ernesto a while back, it being the first one he had seen. The radio was top of the line for Motorola back then and was marketed as a radio for the executive to have on his desk. The radios are very repairable by a decent radio repair person, which includes the knob this one needs. There's more info on these sets in this thread.

Again, not my auction but I would love to see this one go to a good home in the hobby. I've attached a couple of documents of interest. If anyone buys this and needs a copy of the Motorola repair manual for this set, I have a good scan of one I can send to you. Just PM me.

Is it also rare for a 1936 Vacumatic desk set to have a pencil?

Hi Norm,

1936 Vac desk pens and pencils are convertible. Addition of taper to a typical first generation barrel creates the desk item.  Tapers are same as used for earlier Duofolds. They don't turn up often but I don't think I'd call rare.

I knew the tapers for the pens were common but I have never seen one for pencils before.
