Well, this is not my usual sort of thing.... just grabbed a green marbled seriously oversize combo in what must be near mint condition - there is no sign of wear on it whatsoever. Everything apart from the fossilized eraser works just fine. It also has a truly massive steel nib, pretty firm as expected. The surprise is just how smooth the thing is. Buttery smooth, and soft feeling.
The nib is "iridium tipped" and marked simply Reden's.
Photos of the beast will follow shortly.

So I'm a day late and a dollar short, again. The thing I find interesting about the New Banker combos is the lever filler. I have two of them and both have the same 'Waterman' lever. Maybe I just haven't been in the right place at the right time but I've not seen any discussion on the Waterman levers that are in these pens. Did the patent run out? And if so, how come only this company picked up on it? Was there anything that tied the two companies together? Anybody know anything?

The boxed lever as used on the New Banker pens differs from the Waterman type in one vital respect - the box is not actually supporting the lever - the lever is secured into the pen barrel and lever box using the regular spring ring / circlip. I suspect that this deviation is sufficient to circumvent patent issues.
