Last year, at the Philly Pen Show, I was told by one of the preeminent pen restorers that he only uses pvc sacs in his Snorkel repairs because he had been having so many sac failures with rubber sacs like the one shown in the original post.

Here are some pictures of the nib and section of what I would call the 1970s model with the 14C nib and the slightly different collar (as opposed to the 1980s model with a 14K nib and tapered collar).  These show up on ebay with some frequency.:

In Topic: Duofold button filler breather tube?

Thank you for the very informative replies.  I guess I just could not imagine that a pen manufacturer would drill a hole in the feed and add a piece of tubing unless it had a function, especially if the tube is not even visible!

Although the filling system of an aerometric P51 with a metal sac guard and a pvc sac may make it look radically different from this duofold with a button filler and a rubber sac, both pens have sacs and pressure bars that work in essentially the same way.  The sac is compressed which creates a vacuum that pulls ink into the pen.  So why wouldn't a breather tube enable the sac of the Duofold to fill more fully with ink with multiple compressions of the sac?

If you are getting fingerprints, I would just suggest using plain water on a cloth (and if that does not work slightly soapy water) to remove any residue left by the sunshine cloth.

I doubt that a sunshine cloth would be much better than a damp cloth on stainless steel.  I have used the Main Street Pens polish on a P75 flighter that had a finish that was dirty and uneven in color with good results.   But I would always try with a damp cloth first.
