In Topic: Waterman's 52V with unusual "J"-nib

30 June 2014 - 01:20 PM

Hi Christof,

I had a Burnham pen recently that had a J on the nib as well. Completely different font though.

Have a look here: http://bit.ly/1lrXObN.

Burnhams used the letter J for its calligraphy nibs, but I really don't know why and if  the J on Tom's and your pen is an indication for a calligraphy nib as well.

Best regards from The Netherlands,

Hi Andy,

I posted my question here so as not to disturb you again with an e-mail full of questions about English pens. But look who is the first to answer :D

There's nothing imprinted on the lever so I guess finding out what company made this pen will be to no avail.

By the way: I found a Dutch advertisement that's very like the one Stephen describes in the 6th paragraph on p. 161, the one that starts with "as a result of the unexpected cancellation..."

Unfortunately the advertisement is completely anonymous so there's no telling who is behind it . The similarity is striking though.

In Topic: Neptune Pens

Hi Andy,

You might be interested to know that Neptune pens were sold over here in Holland as well. The first advertisement I found in my newspaper research dates back to january 1923. The brand name was written as Neptun in the first adverstisement. In later advertisements by the firm from Mr. J.J. van Mastrigt the brand name was written correctly. Have a look here:

Unfortunately I didn't find any advertisements with prices or model numbers.

After 1930 no advertisements for Neptune pens can be found in the Dutch newspapers

Cheers,

Allard

It's Dutch actually and reads (translated) "All other brands must bow to the king".
