Topics I've Started

Woo Hoo for Coral!

02 January 2014 - 09:01 PM

Went for my first antique shop crawl in a couple months last Saturday.  My first stop was at a recently opened place that I hadn't been to before.  There were about a dozen pens lined up in a display case, and a blue Esterbrook LJ and an orange Sheaffer of some sort both grabbed my eye.

The orange Sheaffer was in great shape; clearly whoever O. W. Haney was didn't use it much.  Then I looked at the bottom of the pen... "R3-25C Semi Fine $3.00".  Yep, stickered!

As if that wasn't thrilling enough, I walked out with both pens for under 30 bucks.

Dandy way to finish the year!  Now I guess I should take a picture or two...

Just exactly the right one...

As I was just about to head out the door Saturday morning, trying to think what I might be forgetting, I realized I didn't have a pen in my pocket. Then I figured maybe I should pick something a bit special since the occasion was my daughter's wedding. My burgundy Touchdown Sentinel seemed like a good choice. I freshened the ink just in case I actually needed to use it, and off the boys and I went.

Several hours later the best man (my oldest son) said to me, "I was told you brought a special pen for us to sign the marriage license with." Of course nobody had told me, but I guess it was a fortunate safe assumption. The only ones who'd ever used a real pen before were my Dad (who officiated) and my daughter. Then I was glad I'd picked the Sheaffer with the silky smooth and stiff as a nail Triumph point instead of my Rosewood Wahl with the flexy nib! It was exactly the right pen to put in someone's hand for a very special signature when they just learned five minutes ago how to use the thing.

Of course you know I'm never parting with that pen now!
