Since I last posted about this, I've acquired a few modern pens that I actually like very much: a Visconti Art Nouveau, a Parker Duofold International (Centennial was too big for me), and a Conway Stewart Wellington. They're all well balanced and not too heavy. The Conway Stewart even has a little bit of flex, too.
So now I'm finally able to enjoy having a mix of new and old--and penmanila, I like the way you phrase it: "proud of their virtues and generally forgiving of their faults."

I believe that's where the clip used to ilve.

This is one of those times when I smack myself in the skull and say "Why didn't I figure that out?" Thanks Tim.

This reminds me that I have a question about drilling of FPs as well, but not Wahl Gold Seals. I have a Conklin crescent filler that has 4 small holes around the cap--the type I often see on pen caps, but then there's also one, much larger hole drilled above them. What is the purpose of that hole and why was it done?

The picture might be wee but it's a lovely pen!

Well done! You made me feel better since I bought 3 pens at the show and was feeling a little "free" on the old cash. I picked up a Pelikan 1000, a Parker Vacumatic and a Wahl signature (I can never remember the correct name on the Wahl - and probably messed it up here),
I loved being able to see the pens and hold them versus looking at them on a computer.
Yup, very easy to be "free" with the $$! It felt like being a kid in a candy store, you can't help but want to go hog wild!
