Free Rhodia 5x5 80-sheet dot pad available

01 March 2012 - 05:08 PM

I don't use it because most of the inks I regularly use take forever to dry on this paper, so I'm sticking with my Clairefontaine.

I only used maybe 5 sheets of the 80 sheets, so it's mostly unused.

If anyone wants it, holler and I'll send it!

New acquisitions from Philly

23 January 2012 - 06:13 AM

I went a little berserk and made a few more purchases than I intended to. I couldn't help myself. Everytime I saw another pen I really liked, I felt all the dopamine receptors in my brain lighting up. I guess I'm officially a junkie now.

The final haul:

Vintage Pelikan 500 pen/pencil set in tortoiseshell (the tortoiseshell on the barrel is a lot lighter than it appears in this photo)
Paul Wirt BCHR eyedropper with a #3 nib
Conklin crescent filler 2NL with a #2 flex nib
Oversize Eversharp Doric in Kashmir (not sure what generation it is, it's a lever filler but without a gold seal) -no discoloration on the pen at all on the cap or barrel, it's in great shape, and has an adjustable #5 nib
Oversize Eversharp Doric in Jet Black with the Gold Seal (I think it's a 2nd-generation Doric, it has a plunger filler) with a flex nib

It was a very nice show, I was there for a little while on Friday afternoon but most of Saturday. I had a great time talking to the dealers and meeting other show visitors, comparing pens, etc. The snow put a bit of a damper on things but not too much, fortunately.

Eagle pen with glass cartridge

17 December 2011 - 06:00 PM

I just bought this Eagle on eBay--thought it was interesting since you don't often come across their early cartridge pens, with an intact glass cartridge:

Nib change affecting pen value?

05 December 2011 - 05:46 PM

Here's something that I've been wondering about: if you have a vintage pen that's in great shape or NOS, and you alter the nib (eg, regrind to a stub, adjust the flow, change the flex, etc), how much does that affect the resale value of the pen?

The only pens I've tinkered with have been my modern pens, but I was just curious about the vintage ones. If I were to take an Eversharp Skyline (just picking a pen at random) and wanted to go from a fine nib to a stub, I assume that alters the value since you're changing its original condition.

Not that I anticipate selling any of my older guys anytime soon, but I figured it's worth asking about.

A non-Duofold Lady Duofold?

02 December 2011 - 04:16 PM

I saw a pen on eBay that I assumed was a Lady Duofold judging from the look, size (4.5" long), and ringtop, but then when I read the description I was intrigued. It doesn't say DUOFOLD anywhere, nor does it say LADY. And the banner has LUCKYCURVE all as one word. I even downloaded a few of the photos on the listing and lightened them up so I could see the imprint more clearly. The cap top is the usual ridged black top, and it has a single band instead of either the triple band or the wider gold band that I've seen on a lot of other Lady Duofolds. And I assumed it wasn't a Junior because of the ringtop/no clip.

I bought it because I just found it interesting. But what the heck is it? Is it a Duofold that someone forgot to add the "Duofold" stamp to? Are there a lot of Lady Duofolds the "Lady Duofold" imprint? Maybe this is a Frankenpen with mismatched cap/barrel? The photos didn't show the nib clearly enough to see, so I'll be curious to see what it says.

Thoughts? The photos are terrible, but I figured what the heck.
