Azure, blue diamond with matching celuloid section exist?

28 August 2014 - 03:00 AM

Hi,

Did Parker make azures with blue diamond clips and a matching celuloid section?

I've checked several retail sites and a lot of them show azures, but I don't I can't find matching sections.

I'm slowing learning enough about vacs to piece together what I like best:
Azure, blue diamond, single jewel and matching sections with really good barrel clarity and a great condition as far as plating and knicks.

I also like the idea of the metal speedline filler along with the larger sizes, but nothing so rare that it will run over $200.

Parker Thrift Time FP, Rarer Version with matching blind cap and clip cap.

Vintage Parker Depression era, Thrift Time, fountain pen. Fourth quarter of 1935.
See writing sample picture posted.

Works very well. Nib has some flex as shown in the writing sample.

Imprint on the nib is:
PARKER
PEN
MAD IN
U.S.A.
45

Imprint on the barrel is:
Geo S Parker - Parker- Made in U.S.A. 45
(the 45 on the barrel is rotated 90° clockwise to the other text)

Three ring cap
Clip screw and blind cap match the body (green marble). They are not black.

New sac just installed.
Button filler mechanics work well.

The furniture is in decent shape, but showing age. The clip has wear, and the cap has what looks like a small crack from the bottom to the first ring. It seems stable.

Please, feel free to ask me any questions or make an offer - pricing this FP is hard as there are so few examples and the one on ebay is insanely priced. Price includes shipping in CONUS.
I have uploaded several more higher resolution pics on the Gallery section of this site.

Thanks

Help with a 1935 Parker

11 February 2014 - 05:14 PM

HI,

I recently aquired this little Parker. I'm just starting off in this hobby, so this is my first restore. I've done as much research as I can, but value seems to be the hardest to find. I've found a lot of info on this site and here's what I gather...

It's very likely a thrift time Parker, and I rarely see pictures of this style.

The nib and barrel have 45 on them.

The blind cap and clip cap match the barrel's color

All the pieces (3 part pressure bar, nib, feed, button, caps, clip, and bands) seem very well used/old, but they are all in working condition... sac is in the mail! No chips, but there is a lot of wear and a small crackrunning from the bottom of the cap to the first band. I can only see it with my loupe.

I've done some dip ink tests with it as the sac is not yet here. I really like the nib! It has a flex that I would say is much like my Serwex MB flex (I also have VERY little experience with flex, so that nib opinion is only worth 1 cent.)

Please educate me on the value, history, name, etc. I think I may part with it to help fund a more modern purchase.... I'm jonesing for a Pilot Falcon with Mottishaw flex nib for daily use.

Hello from Sacramento, Ca

Hi,

I'm new to Fp collecting - just started during my Christmas break about a month ago. I received a karas Bolt pen and that created interest in good gel ink refills which brought me to boards and forums where the FP rules... I had to have one. My first FP was a cheap Scripto that looks great and now jas a new nib. Then I purchased a Twsbi Mini, some ink and a few pads. Then came the discovery of the John Mottishaw Falcon flex youtube videos. I had to have some flex! I ordered a Serwex MB with flex (really enjoy it) and recently I was on the hunt for vintage FP. That brings me here. I purchased a Parker thrift time of some sort that needed some repair (i'll start a new thread). I'm almost done with the repair as I only need a new sac and some shellac now.

On a personal side I'm a very avid golfer (around scratch) and an art director for a custom club company. FP seem so natural of a hobby for me since my passion for typography is something I work at everyday. I never thought much of calligraphy - just typefaces - untill recently. I've really enjoyed a lot of examples and videos of hand crafted phrases and lettering. In college I spent a lot of time learning about type and character design, yet very little on handwriting. Well, here I am... Ready to learn!

Thanks, Ryan
