#34897 Parker 88/Rialto - only come in gold trim?

Posted by ckent007 on 10 May 2014 - 12:12 PM in PARKER: (USA "Big Five")

I've been doing a lot of looking into the Parker 88, which looks like a precursor to the Vector styling.

Can anyone confirm that it only came in gold trim? I haven't yet seen any variants with chrome trim. Thanks!

#34768 parker 51, 61, or 21 nib size determination

I have been trying to tell the size of my parker 51, 61, or 21 pen nib. Is there any way you can distinguish, without dismantling the front hood section (which i have read requires heat, etc)?

On the parker 45, you can just look at the underside of the nib, and there is a marking M, F, X- any tips for distinguishing these hooded pens?

Thanks!

#34682 Parker 51 fountain cap finishes

Posted by ckent007 on 23 April 2014 - 12:02 AM in PARKER: (USA "Big Five")

Sorry for not being more clear.

What i mean to ask is this:

Does the satiny-appearance finish on this parker 51 cap...

http://www.ebay.com/...=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

...resemble the type of brushed metal finish on this parker 45

http://www.ebay.com/...=item2ec8aaae90

, or is it a different type of metal finish entirely?

Thanks!

Really beautiful work!

1. Are the crocodile and ice patterns 3 dimensional? Are there actually grooves in the barrel where the patterns lie?

2. What is the material like - leather bound to plastic?

3. Are the matte finish caps satin-like, or more like a brushed stainless steel?

#34676 Parker 51 fountain cap finishes

Posted by ckent007 on 22 April 2014 - 07:44 PM in PARKER: (USA "Big Five")

Dear All:

Was doing some investigating into Parker 51 fountain pen variants.

I have a Parker 51 mark II, and the cap metal is a very polished chrome-like steel.

I have seen many pictures of other Parker 51 caps, in which the finish is not polished, but more like satin-appearing. Is this an illusion, or is the metal more like a brushed stainless steel, like that of the majority of parker flighters, like the 45, the 61, and the 75?

Thanks very much,

WB

#34553 Help: Identification of new old Parker ballpoint pens

Posted by ckent007 on 16 April 2014 - 07:09 PM in PARKER: (USA "Big Five")

I have two mystery pens that I am having a hard time identifying:

1. Steel flighter model: has a ring around the cap base, similar to a parker 61 fountain pen. However, the cap end does not have a jewel - it is a thick brass/gold appearing end cap, with a conical top. Marked: Made in England at the base of the cap.

2. Red plastic pen: NO ring around the cap base. The end cap metal part above the clip is not as conical, NOR as thick at the top. The arrow clip appears the same as the other pen. Marked "INDUSTRIA ARGENTINA" at the base of the cap.

The pens are roughly the same length (steel one is a few millimeters longer)
The caps are not interchangeable.

Ideas I have received from others:

1. The clip from the red pen looks like a Parker 61.  But it does not have a end jewel.

2. Someone mentioned late model Parker 45s made in Argentina just transposed the clip style to the 45 body - however, when I tried to fit this cap onto a Parker 45 I have, it did not fit.

3. Parker 65? pen possibility for the steel flighter

Thanks!
