I saw that too David. Okay the pen and pencil look standard, but the ball point is something I'm not familiar with. Limited angle doesn't show a white dot on it either which I suspect should be there whatever set it may have come from. Next it's a push on cap, while tuckaways aren't something I know much about I'm thinking a screw cap would have been the order of the day if from an earlier era, nor does the pencil "section" fit the standard profile. As far as I can make out the pattern is the same for all pieces. First thought is a clip less tuckaway or Ladies bp of some sort , after that I haven't got any idea.

Pretty pens, but another example of sellers not knowing what they have. These are not Imperials, they are not gold-plated. And they are not worth $775 (or $450). The fountain pen doesn't take a refill -- it's a touchdown pen. And the ballpoint doesn't take a modern refill without some modification.

At the right price these would be nice to have and use. One question for me, since it's sometimes hard to judge from photos, is whether this is the familiar (to me, anyway) Thin Model pen or one of the fatter early touchdowns. I've never seen one in gold fill, but I'm figuring that there could be/should be some around.

If I think of anything else, I'll chime in.

I can't say for sure the model of the fountain pen and pencil, but the ballpoint is the Tuckaway version of the Stratowriter, and mamma would love very much to have that puppy. I had the opportunity to pick one up a few months ago, but the seller wanted waaaay too much money for it. Kinda like this seller .

I'm certain it's a TM TD.

Stratowriter Tuckaway I believe, from around 1948-1950. Could have persisted to TM TD era. Need at least to peek at catalogue

Live and learn !! Tuckys have been "under the radar" for me. I was under the impression ( with a ?) they did make it into the TM TD era though in some form ( or other!!). One thing for sure...they won't be heading this way at that price Posted Image

That Touchdown does appear to be a TM... but at what looks to be just under 5 inches it's more than a quarter inch shorter than my lovely burgundy Sentinal riding in my pocket today. That seems like an awfully large variance. And while the clarity of the ink window is nice, something looks... off. I wonder what that is on the front half of the section. I also wouldn't expect to see plastic peeking out between the front of the barrel plating and the threads, but I don't exactly have a pile of these for comparison... so maybe that's not abnormal.

I suppose the Touchdown and the pencil do belong together as a set. I hardly think I'd call something discovered in Grandpa's desk drawer and sold as-is "retail". But maybe I define things differently. Wouldn't be the first time.
