This pic has a matching ashtray which is certainly the dog though it may not be Sheaffer
The large one, 1014 with the two dogs weighs a good ten pounds and was promoted in 1928

Nice bases, Roger.
I noticed the one in the ad has only one trumpet pen holder, while yours has two.
Where did you find the last one?
Pedro;
My base only has one socket - just as in the ad. The last one was on EBay with a buy it now of $475 or best offer. It was out of England and I made a very substantially lower offer which was accepted. It was all in pounds but, with shipping, worked out to $200.

Even though there are only four desk bases in this series it has taken a little over 8 years to put together three of them. The two main sets with the larger dogs are 1013 and 1014. None of these sets are common. The hunting dog or the enamel dogs are more readily available. The large dogs are marked Germany on a rear flank including the ashtray. The yet missing set is a small police dog on an irregular oval base.

Wow! What a collection! My only thought was what if those were made today; instead of ash trays and paper clip dishes we would have a marble "dock" for our Smart Phones :-)
Thank you for sharing!

Very nice desk sets! Instead of "police dogs," I wonder if the Sheaffer's marketers weren't thinking of Rin Tin Tin, the hero of popular movies throughout the 1920s.
I would have called them German Shepherds - Sheaffer called them police dogs. Dogs in use tended to follow popularity though so your point is still well made. Dogs in the 30's on sets are the Asta types from the Thin Man and such (fox wire terrier - I think).
