This is my latest find, just got it today. A great MINT 1956 Pelikan 400N Tortoise.

I bought it inside this Pelikan box and with the warranty and instruction in Portuguese!

The box is really interesting; exterior paper looking like snake skin, interior lining in a silky fabric with the Pelikan logo and that locking pin mechanism in metal . This box puts some doubts in my mind as to its production period . I have seen similar boxes, but in earlier pens and mostly in Toledos or other more luxurious versions of the 100 or 100N, never seen this in a 400.

I think the box is not be from the same period as the pen ( 1956) to the pen but from the early 40íes. Can  anyone confirm If am correct in this statement?

Best

Vasco

Beautiful pen, Vasco. I'm sorry, I don't know enough about these issues to say anything about the pen case and what period it might be. I hope you don't mind this, though: I think what you wanted to say in your thread title is "Latest find" and not "Last find". What you wrote gives the impression that you might not ever look for a pen again! :) It was probably the last find you made, before you make any others, but I think it is probable that most English speakers would refer to your pen as your "latest find", meaning that it is the most recent, and that you will continue to find more lovely pens in the future.

Which I'm sure you will!

Hi Jon,

Thank you! You are correct, it will not be my last, I hope :) !! Thinking in one language and writing in another is not the best option most times. In Portuguese we use the same word for both meanings, only the context will show the intention of what we mean to say.

I am humbled by most anyone who can utilize more than one language fluently. I am embarrassed to live about 15 miles from an international border and still have only a very passing ability to speak Spanish. To be honest, learning another language or two is a forefront goal in a couple years when I retire from active work. My brain will make good use of the exercise.

Now give me that pen. :)

That is a beautiful pen and I hope that it gives you much enjoyment. Quite a rarity given it's short production run
