I'll be more blunt: fucking unbelievable. I'm disappointed, if that can still happen, and have pretty much reached my limit.

I had to check, but today is indeed JULY 1st, not APRIL 1st.

I was content to sit back and observe the conversation going on in this thread, but I agree with David N, Roger W, Rick, and Jon.  The idea is completely ludicrous and distasteful, David.  Not a funny joke if it was even intended to be one.  Grow up.

....my friend and PCA Prez Ron Zorn....

I've been considering doing a run (nothing to do with Paul or the new mag) of "i QUIT the pca" pins.  Just need an artist or graphics person. Or maybe I can sketch a rough in Photoshop since it will be all letters.

Interesting.

I think the more it eats away at me, this might be the limiting point for me as well.

As I said previous, I am not a fan of the PCA, but the pin thing is too much.

More I think about it, the more disappointed I get.

How did the Joker say it in the original Dark Knight? "So many faces. So few smiles". probably also a pertinent comment there by the Comedian. Later, if I can find that. The thought had been tongue-in-cheek, however it appears to me the PCA is beginning to empathize with its impact on others. That is a positive sign. Food for thought

Looks like the thought went quickly from "tongue-in-cheek" to "foot-in-mouth."

I think you probably owe the PCA an apology.

Well not really. Political poking is something I like. But I am gaining increased motivation to actually pursue this project. Irony

I post this only to try and encourage a good resolution to this situation.

I am but a distant viewer of this drama.  I don't know any of you personally, so I don't know what history you may or may not have with one another.  What I do know is that often the first step to solving a personal problem is to humble yourself.  I can think of several times when personally I have apologized to others when I could not really see that I had done anything wrong, but they were still upset with me.  However, I valued the friendship far more than me winning the argument or being viewed as right.

Once again, I don't know any of you.  I have no side here, I am far too uninformed and removed from the situation to do that.

There is tremendous wisdom in the book of Proverbs.  I wish I applied them to my life more consistently.

Proverbs 11:2 When pride comes, then comes disgrace, but with the humble is wisdom.

Proverbs 15:1 A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.

Well, if you do go ahead and pursue the pin project, will you offer it in a free 3D printer download version?

Running with the hypothetical (watch out for the subjunctive case; at least I think it's the subjunctive...)...

If i were to offer the hypothetical pin, I would not object to that pin being downloadable, akin to the library.    But, I have no idea how to do that. I'd need someone with the tech skills to facilitate...

Hypothetically... (and ducking).

I don't really know many of you either, though I have learned much from most here. Currently what I see is the fireworks of the owners behavior, diminishing the contributions of the other list members.

I enjoyed meeting Paul Erano last year and signing up for the new magazine, heavily promoted here. Now I can't help feeling icky about the juvenile put-downs and bad blood that is flowing in the margins. I would rather let it lapse. The behavior of one or two is enough to poison the well for me. I don't really enjoy my time here anymore.

I may pop in in the future but won't be contributing (not that I did much to begin with).

Good luck,

--greg

That's fair.

Do keep eye out this week for the formal thread.

Or not...

Moving past "the pin" thing....something that I passed over as a bit "tongue in cheek" but the negative reaction indicates this is a touchy issue...  there are have been many points raised that do deserve a better look/discussion.

1. Veley has featured a bit, let me say I have no issue with his performance as editor of Penant ( now irrelevant to me anyway). I do, however, believe he's failed to combine a position within the PCA and his own opinions and present them without bias. Diplomacy ( however hard you need to bite your tongue) is important in a small group if you're in a senior position.

2. Roger raised a very interesting and probably the most relevant point about sharing reference material, the fact someone may make money from your hard work. Really, if you expend both time and money to build a bank of information the last thing you want is seeing someone else benefit financially from it. It comes down to a personal view, do you share for the benefit of the hobby or do you preserve your hard work for your use ( which is one of the reasons for collecting). Perhaps the one benefit of the sharing is that once it's "out there" the potential for anyone to profit is greatly reduced. Still the choice is with the person holding the info.

3. I believe the PCA is generally moving in a positive direction, it's relevance has been questioned and such questioning is actually far more positive than negative. Understanding the negatives has much greater benefit that just pushing the positives. Small , voluntary organizations always struggle for people to do the jobs and often little recognition is received but that's part of the course. Personally I'd like to see more discussion on ways for the PCA to expand it's appeal in the longer term.

Regards

Hugh

This pin issue is also troubling for me now that it seems to be more than an inflammatory, juvenile joke. Its continued pursuit is not particularly gracious nor does it cast you, David, in a particularly good light. It also makes the PCA appear more adult and amenable by not commenting.

The pen community is not huge and the hatchet needs to be buried by both parties once and for all for the common good of this board and the PCA. Making enemies does not bode well in the long term, particularly among those who contribute to this board.
