This board needs something new to talk about.

Sharp combos! The grey pearl with red veins is one you don't see often, it's been quite a while since I've seen one.

Did the white dot models all have the extra band on them?

Might be the first gray/red Sheaffer Combo I've seen. I'm assuming this turned up in Todd's recent hoard.

Recollection (must check catalogues of which I have originals, color copies, and now... instead PDF access...) is that the white dot Sheaffer Combos are off-catalogue as well. The barrel band associates with the white dot cap on Sheaffer Combos.

On exception might be the off-catalogue "Rudy" Sheaffer Combos-- solid gold AUtograph trim--  including the remarkable and late Marine Green striated pens.

I'm surprised Combos aren't more popular. Is it because they don't appear that often or do pen collectors just don't like them. I love the only 1 I have even though it's most definitely 3rd tier.
Towel not unique I had 1 just like it but passed it on.

I don't have any facts to back up my thoughts about combos, but I suspect that they aren't more common because they were a short lived fad.  They held neither enough ink or lead to be as practical as full sized versions of either.

I do not like combos at all!  Those are nice looking and I can see them being interesting to collect.  That being said, you guys can have at them.

Combos indeed are an interesting niche, whether or not one would want to have one in pocket on regular basis ;)

This thread has a focus on Sheaffer in particular, though the OP did not seem to insist on limiting the thread to that.

There are some Combos that are very high quality, with great collector cachet.

"Perfect" Jade celluloid does not hurt.

Think I have a green and bronze Wahl, but away from home. Will have to look after weekend. Left a black Moore combo with Farmboy last Monday.

This is the only combo I have, also a Schnell but without the distinctive clip.

I bought a collection lately that has quite a number of combos; off brands, but great plastic!

If we are not limited to Sheaffer pens in the Sheaffer forum, I bring you some Swanbos.

Frankencombo?

I don't think the cap and barrel really match.  Eclipse on the lever, but whose cap is that with the S in a wreath?
