I have a black Parker 51 vac that has no markings on the barrel at all.The cap is gold and marked Made in Canada.Have also seen a black Parker 51 aero with no markings on the barrel but with a Made in Canada marked gold cap.
Does anyone have any information about these pens? Why are there no markings on the barrels?I had thought that all Parker 51 barrels were marked.

Hi,

In the USA, barrel imprints went bye-bye around 1952. Unimprinted earlier pens raise the usual considerations, "Never had one" vs "polished/worn away". The imprints are not very deep even when fresh.

If it's a NOS unmarked 51 vac barrel, it likely came from a Parker repair shop.

Thanks for the info, I always wondered this myself. My '51' has no barrel markings and I'm always seeing people posting photos of them and finding their date codes.

I have a '53 pen and a '55 pencil. Nothing after that.
Best,

I just purchased a Parker 51, made in the USA with a 1.3 mm Minuskin nib and wondered about its age...post 1952 thanks to your comment David. That is helpful.

Not necessarily. As mentioned by the good doctor... Parker stopped marking 51 barrels in the US in 1952 and a bit after that in Canada...
I have seen a fair number of NOS Parker 51s boxed and still in the plastic sleeve with no barrel markings..

Don't assume all unmarked mint or NOS barrels are from the repair shop....
