I picked up a Valentine candy strip lever filler off ebay today and it it described as being stamped 01 on the end of the barrel.  I am assuming this is a size stamp, but I can't find any information on Valentine sizing, or much information at all on the brand.  Anyone have any thoughts or information about these pens to share?

Thanks

Beautiful pen. I have a bunch in this plastic, but most are Victory not Valentine, at least iirc.

Suspect there is a standard girth and slender girth. Don't think I've seen a true OS.

best regards

Simon (Wardok) will be the Valentine expert here, hopefully he will be able to give you some information soon. I'll drop him an e-mail to make sure he sees the topic.

I read somewhere that the Valentines  came in model numbers 01, 02,03,04, and 06 - although I have not seen the latter.

These 01 lever fill models are identical to the Summit S.100 and the Stephens 106. This has lead to some speculation that Lang (Summit) produced all three. It  sounds more likely that Valentine would have been sub-contracted by Lang to produce the basic pen, and they used some of the stock for their own brand items.

The same material, was used in the much larger Parker Victory, which was known to be manufactured in the Valentine factory

Earlier Valentines had a numbering system based on price - so you can get a 106, which cost 10/6, a 210 (a guinea or 21/-) 250 (25/-) etc. but the later pens had a numbering system based on size 01 (also occasionally N01) 02, 03 and 04. They are most commonly seen in the red, green and brown candystripe colours but were also available in in many, if not all, of the lovely English Duofold colours that David Shepherd shows on pages 262 and 263 of his Duofold book. They came as both button and lever fillers.

The 06 size Paul refers to may be the pen on the right of the picture which has a Valentine nib and clip, but only s "Made in England" imprint and no number on the end. Left to right, Valentines 01, 02, 03, 04, Parker Victory, Parker Duofold Senior (I think) and the "06"

Thanks for the information.   I'll add more details on this one once I get it in hand.
