I drove past an antique store today that had a lot of flea market booths in front of it. One had fountain pens. I got these six for an average under $8.50 each with the two caps thrown in as part of the deal.

Perhaps some of you can help me Id some of them.  The top one is an orange NN, The black Parker with three cap rings might be a Duofold, but I'd be surprised if it is. It is a button filler and the blind cap is a stepped flat bottomed and chewed a lot. The Parker desk pen only says Parker on the filler sleeve and it looks like it has a gold nib. I hope it is a 51 but may be a 21. The 51 looks like a teal blue and is a Special it has a broken nib tine.  The cap as a couple small dents on either side of the clip as though some kind of mechanical pressure was exerted, possible because the cap was stuck, IDK.   The Black Sheaffer with the gold cap still has chalk marks that look like it says OLD PEP. It is a cartridge filler and the Snorkel still works.  The guy said he had one pen that he wanted $25. for because it had a 14k nib but when I asked him which one it was, he couldn't find it.

Nice haul.

I've seen several 21s with shrunken hoods, this being a malady that seems not to affect 51s. Maybe this means that the desk pen is indeed a 21?

Could be. Probably is a 21. It is a later model. It has the arrow and halo.

Black Parker with three cap bands is a duette, I think.

The Duettes I have seen have that same cap band but I don't recall them having stepped cap and blind caps.

Here is a known 21 desk pen next to the desk pen I got today.  The opening for the feed is bigger on the 21 and the band on the 21 is typical for a 21. Both are different on today's pen.  I will try to take off the hood and see what kind of nib it has.

All I keep hearing in my head now are things like "Harry Potter and the Shrunken Hoods"...

I have tried regular 51 and 21 pen heads in the tail of this pen and neither fit but a 51 demi does.

Can anyone shed any light on the black and gold Sheaffer or confirm whether or not the three band Parker is a Duette?

It's a late model 51 only made as a desk pen and is the same diameter as a Super 21 and 51 demi.  Injection molded plastic.  Take a look at page 2-U in the PCA LIbrary's 1962 Parker Parts list, which shows the taper and the V-shaped clutch ring and notes that all other parts are Super 21.  Later Parker repair parts list ('64 or so) call it a Parker 52.

The orange pen at the top looks to be a Sheaffer Nononsense.

Thanks for the information.  It is helpful to know the Super 21 fits.  Yes the top pen is a No Nonsense pen. It has a Sheaffers Italic Fine nib.

I was able to find out something about the Sheaffers marked 'old pep' It is actually Gold PEP.   AC19Y, a 1960's cartridge pen with a gold plated nib.

This is an update on the desk pen with the shrunken hood.  I cut off the hood and found a gold 51 nib under it. I I put the nib, feed and collector in another filler and replaced the hood with a good one and  put it all back together. The hood I had fit too tightly to go on the original filler.  I also already had the double desk set but not the second pen until now.

The Black Parker looks like a Duette Sr. depression era. The stepped clip top points in that direction, in my opinion.

Do you see any kind of marking?

I don't know what it is. It could be a Duette. All it says is Geo. S. Parker Parker Made in USA.

The black Parker with three bands is a depression-era pen that really doesn't have a name that we know of.  There is a single reference to them by the name of "$3.75 pen" in either a Parkergram or a catalog.  Probably a Parkergram, but I can't remember.  They are really nice.  I quite enjoy them.

That is nice to know. I couldn't find any examples of a Duette that quite matched. in all respects.  It has a Duofold type clip, a friction fit section and a two piece pressure bar.
