I was looking in the database for a catalog from 1955. I stumbled upon this gem while reading.
Does anyone have one of these?? I'd love to see what they look like! I imagine families would be inclined to keep a special award like this.

Great question. Off hand I've not seen one. 1955 would suggest a Snorkel. Snork desk pens are known. I've not seen pen, advert, catalog description-- at least I don't recall offhand seeing one-- as Masterpiece in solid gold. Wonder what the base was (most likely NOT solid gold through and through. Even then a pound of gold was pricey)?
Good use of the catalogue collection.

Yes! The year you posted is 1955, I have one from 1956. My grandfather was the Skrip foreman and had a good friend named Ernie Miller. Ernie got this set when he retired in 1956. When Ernie passed away, his widow said she knew Ernie would want my grandfather to have it, so she gave it to him. Now passed down to me. And David is right on. It is a snorkel.

Wonderful pens. Thanks for sharing. I'd love hi res shots or (less likely to happen) chance to shoot in my light tent one day.

Just good even lighting. Your point and shoot should do pretty high res if not reduced for web. Even 7MP gives 3000 pixels wide
