I was going through my pen trays Sunday and I came upon a black Sheaffer balance that looked strange. The barrel had developed a whitish coating since I last looked at it (probably a year or more). I quickly plucked it out of the tray and took it into another room. I'm thinking of salvaging the section/feed/nib, lever, pressure bar and cap (which shows no discoloring) and throwing out the rest. Does this sound like a good course of action?
