I think the S.S.S. might stand for "Sun, Sea, Star." They were also known as San-Esu in Japan. I've seen S.S.S. pens on Japanese auction sites, but never one that looked like that. Very cool!

Superb! Do any of them have that fantastic looking spade nib? Do you mean on the 2nd one that they turned a new barrel for you? Simon Might you be thinking of Macniven and Cameron's Waverley nib? (article here). Can't say I've ever seen one in a Ford.

Might you be thinking of Macniven and Cameron's Waverley nib? (article here). Can't say I've ever seen one in a Ford.
According to this article by Oldfield, it looks like a spade nib is 2.5 mm across the tips, so perhaps a BBB in another pen?
