#38593 Sheaffer Balance on ebay. Happy David.

Posted by haywoody on 29 November 2014 - 05:44 AM in SHEAFFER (USA "Big Five")

It's a "short and stout," or whatever you call them. Girth of a standard sized Balance but about 1/2" shorter. Not common, especially in the red-veined color and even less so with a radius clip.

I won a very similar pen + pencil on eBay a few years ago.

Nice catch!

#33153 Penol Vacumatic?

Posted by haywoody on 09 February 2014 - 09:41 PM in PARKER: (USA "Big Five")

Interesting thread; I managed to miss it the first time around. I picked up a few Olsen-stamped Vacumatics at flea markets in Copenhagen, while I was living in Sweden. The only one still in my possession is a grey pearl Senior Max with a Vacumatic cap band.

The imprint is light but the Olsen symbol is present below:

The barrel is stamped "Made in U.S.A." with a date code of 47. No Penol nib here but a flexy two-tone arrow with USA stamp, closely matched date code and a W-stamped feed. Just more data to muddy the waters...

#32530 Sheaffer Tuckaway. History and Photos. More to come...

Thanks for the info Matt. I like the earlier pens better in general but I wouldn't mind finding the burnt umber Forticel pen.

#32529 Ebay Watch: Sheaffer PFM Demonstrator.

Doubt I'll win PFM Demos, but on outside chance I decided to make play, is your cap in good shape?

regards

David

I just dug it out. I'd call it fair to good... there are two stress cracks around the internal ring, just below the clip. Funny, my complete pen has two nearly identical cracks. The black mask has been removed except for a small patch under the clip. And the white don't is M.I.A. I suspect the first two issues can't be corrected but the white dot should be an easy fix. The plating and plastic are in fine shape and it is fully functional. Happy to post some images if you like.

#32524 Ebay Watch: Sheaffer PFM Demonstrator.

The metal cap is interesting. Typically they have a transparent plastic cap, like the one shown on the other PFM demo he listed. Both pens also have the transparent nib shell, rather than the black one that is also common to find on these pens.

If anybody goes for the metal cap one and wants the (correct?) transparent plastic cap, send me a PM. I believe I have an extra one in my parts box.

#30712 Sheaffer Tuckaway. History and Photos. More to come...

I added a few significant Tuckies to my small collection this year:

Autograph Tuckaways

The brown striated clipless was a buy-it-now on eBay with the 14kt band noted in the description and shown in the images. The clipped brown striated set was also from eBay but the 14kt parts were not noted but clear in the images. I was surprised that there was so little competition for the set. Based on feedback from showing these around a bit they are not so common. I'm curious if there are other Autograph Tuckies in brown, or other non-black colors, known?

Happy holidays!
